SIM Mike Read of Norwich, England competed at Correspondence Chess from 1978 until 2000. This website contains 120 of his best and most interesting games in chronological order, with at least one encounter from every tournament in which he ever took part. He was British Junior Champion in 1981 and 1982, became an International Master (IM) in 1995, and a Senior International Master (SIM) in 1999. He played 115 games for the Great Britain and England teams including playing for England in two Olympiads, two European Team Championships and two North Atlantic Teams Tournaments. The games given on this Web Site were annotated over the years 1980 to 2014, meaning that some notes were done soon after the games ended, while others were not analysed until many years after the event. Producing the annotations has been a labour of love for Mike, and his wish is for his work to be seen by as many people as possible. Therefore if anybody who visits this site happens to be a chess magazine editor, they have his permission to use any of the games given here free of charge in any chess publication. Mike has never possessed a computer, and so is grateful to the late John Charman for having typed out all of the annotations over the years, and to Ray Mayhew for setting up this site.
In early 2018 Mike compiled a book entitled 'My 120 Selected Correspondence Games' which contains all of the games given on this website with some additional analysis over 534 pages. This is available from Amazon online priced at £10.14 or $12.00 as at May 2018. Mike is not taking any royalties from the sales of this book, in order to keep the price as competitive as possible.
